Ephesians 4:15-16

But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

What makes the church work? “Speak the truth in love”!

If the church is a body, we all want to be the head! We all want to be the one who decides what happens in the church and what kind of church it will be. We want the church to revolve around our wants and needs and desires.

But Christ is the head of the body, and our goal as a church must be “to grow up in all aspects into Him”! How do we do that? By “speaking the truth in love”. The truth in this passage is referring to doctrinal truth. Don’t avoid the truth taught by the Word of God for any reason.

But in your pursuit of truth, don’t forget about love. We can get so caught up in our defense of doctrine that we stop loving the people we are trying to convince! If we forget about either one, love or truth, the church will not work.

What’s God saying to you today about how you’re balancing love and truth?
