You may have heard the story of the homosexual New Jersey waitress who claimed some customers left her a hateful note instead of a tip.
It turns out her story appears to have been a hoax.
Since news media picked up on waitress Dayna Morales’ Facebook picture of a note that read, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle,” the accused family has come forward refuting Morales’ story.
They say the receipt on which the note was scribbled on was theirs – but that they never included such a message. As proof, they’ve shared their version of the receipt which includes an $18 tip and nothing more. A credit card statement verifies the inclusion of the tip.
What a good reminder to use discernment when reading news accounts like these. What at first blush may seem as fact sometimes turns out to be untrue. I can relate. I’ve been a victim of people running wild with speculation and false accusations. We have to be careful when it comes to discerning fact from fiction, especially in this new age of digital media.
In this instance, I’m glad the original story wasn’t true.
