Proverbs 15:22
Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

A friend of mine recently visited a business leader in his office. On the man’s desk was a sign that read: “Don’t always believe what you think!” That’s some great advice. My thoughts can get twisted, mangled, and screwed-up. I can rationalize just about anything I want badly enough. Today’s proverb keeps us from flying solo and crashing just after take-off. Let’s break it down.

Plans fail for lack of counsel. My plans need outside input. Left to myself, I will miss some critical pieces. I will say, when it’s too late, “Man, why didn’t I think of that!?”

With many advisers plans succeed. We don’t need to take a national poll in order to make our plans. The proverb is simply encouraging the recruitment of godly and trusted advisers. I need people who think differently, have a different perspective, are grounded in the Word, and have a growing relationship with Jesus.

Planning alone will end in failure; planning with godly counsel will lead to success. This one’s a no-brainer!

Lord, help us to be wise enough and humble enough to seek and follow godly advice. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
