Jerusalem Celebrates 48 Years of Being Undivided Capital

Carrie Dedrick

Jerusalem celebrated 48 years of being a unified capital on Sunday (May 17). The day is a religious holiday in Israel to honor the miracles that occurred during the Six Day War in 1967, according to Breaking Christian News

To celebrate, Israelis crowded the streets as parades, marches and concerts took place throughout Jerusalem.

Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu also made a speech during the celebration, promising to keep the capital united.

“I pledge that as prime minister I will continue to develop the city. The city was united and will never be divided again,” he said.

"Jerusalem has been and will always be the capital city of the Jewish nation, and not of any other nation. This is where we have begun our path as a nation, this is our home and we are here to stay," he added.

"Jerusalem will never again become a wounded and divided city; we will forever keep Jerusalem unified and under Israeli sovereignty."
