Christians were nearly stopped from holding a Pentecost service in Jerusalem due to hundreds of Jews protesting the event.
Christian Today reports a group of Christians were planning to hold the service at the Hagia Zion, which Greek Orthodox Christians believe to be the Byzantine church where the Last Supper took place. However, hundreds of Jewish radicals showed up at the service, protesting and attempting to stop Christians from entering the building.
According to Christian Today, Christians are permitted to enter the church three times per year, but the rule has recently been contested by many Jews. The Jews believe that King David’s tomb is on the ground floor; worship services held there are then considered idolatrous.
Protest organizer Yehudah Puah said that the Jews hoped "to prevent the desecration of King David's tomb by an idolatrous ceremony of the Greek Church."
Christians were able to enter the church with the assistance of police escorts and hold the service.
