Somebody Loves You - April 24

Day of Rest

Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. - 1 Corinthians 3:8-9

Today we celebrate Labor Day, in recognition of the many contributions American workers have made to the country. We have a great nation, and without the many laborers, workers, where would we be? Would we be a great nation? No. A nation is built upon the hard work of its people.

According to God’s Word, not one person is greater than another. The work of one is just as necessary as the work of another. Remember, in 1 Corinthians 12, Paul spoke of the many members of the body. There are many parts to the body and all are necessary for the body to work properly.

It is the same for a nation. There are many jobs and all are necessary for the best of the nation. We all have to work together and respect the gifts and talents of each person, because all are necessary for the functioning of our society.

However, just as the laborers are necessary to build the nation, it is really the Lord who establishes the nation. It is the Lord who raises up leaders and orders the laborers. Without the wisdom and blessings of the Lord, the laborer labors in vain (Psalm 127:1).

Today, take the time to reflect on the gifts and talents the Lord has given to you, and how He would have you use them, not just to build a nation, but to bring honor and glory to Him.

A dairymaid can milk cows to the glory of God.
