Somebody Loves You - June 21

Filled with the Holy Spirit

Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul.” - 2 Samuel 2:4

The Lord had led David to go up to Hebron, which is in Judah. After David and his men went up there, the men of Judah came to anoint him king of Israel. Remember, God had already anointed David king of Israel through Samuel in 1 Samuel 16:13. That was the real anointing. This was a symbol of the people accepting him as king.

We are not kings and priests today, but we still need to seek the anointing of the Lord. We should still seek leaders who are anointed by the Lord. The anointing of God is so important in our lives; it is the Holy Spirit working in us and through us. Without the Holy Spirit, we cannot do the will of the Lord. It is impossible for us to really know the will of God without His anointing.

This is the reason Paul the Apostle told Timothy: Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure (1 Timothy 5:22). Notice what Paul said, do not raise up or anoint someone too quickly, for you do not want to share in their sin. You want to be sure they are truly anointed of the Lord before you lay hands on them.

When we raise up leaders, either in ministry or in business, we are saying we trust them because they are filled with the Holy Spirit. We are putting our reputation on the line, because we gave them their position. Be sure they are worthy of the position and power you are giving them.

The Holy Spirit is the only authenticator of Christianity.
