And his sister stood at a distance to know what would be done to him... Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?" And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, "Go." So the girl went and called the child's mother. Exodus 2:4, 7-8
Brave young legs followed Moses’ mom to the river bank that day. How her heart must have convulsed with sadness to see him settled in the basket among the reeds, as she watched him from a distance.
As with the midwives, Moses' sister became a gatekeeper of his life, a front-line female who fulfilled a great purpose. With courage that mirrored her mother, this young girl approached the princess and simply posed a question that would save the life of her baby brother:
Shall I go and call you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?
And what about us? What situation are we watching from a distance, justifying reasons to hold back and remain silent? Maybe today God's prompting us to step out to simply speak some words and pose some questions. Today, let's move when He calls and raise our voices when His Spirit prompts us.
After all, God delights in weaving the small and the seeming insignificant actions into divine plans.
Prayer
Lord, give us courage today to step out and raise our voices when you prompt us. Help us to not remain hidden on the river banks of our tough situations. Make us brave and give us your wisdom. Please anoint our mouths with your words, so that what is spoken is according to your purpose. Thank you for the promise of your nearness and your provision in every situation we face. In your name, Jesus. Amen.
