Mind Your Mind

Café Menu for Monday, October 12, 2015

Today’s Special is:  I know you’re lying… your lips are moving!

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Dawn Neely

Main Ingredient:

…He (Satan) was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him.  Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

John 8:44 NAS

Entrée:

The words of a popular song caught my attention recently.  The girl is breaking up with her boyfriend because she cannot trust him.  If his lips are moving, she knows he is lying!

This is a perfect picture of our enemy, the devil.  The Scriptures point out that his native language is lying.  His whole agenda is to tempt us to doubt God’s Word and to bring confusion, chaos and strife into our lives.  He is the enemy of God and the deceiver of the world.

He slithers into our thoughts, seeking to remind us of past faults, failures and regrets.  He reiterates the same old lies he told in the Garden of Eden… God is not enough; you are on your own; God’s Word is not true.

Contrast this with the promises of God.

You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

1 John 4:4 NAS

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father but through me.”

John 14:6 NAS

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1 NAS

So Jesus was saying… “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.”

John 8:31-32 NAS

So when Satan comes with his next attack, let’s claim God’s Word, bringing every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5).  Satan only has as much power as we give him.  The anecdote for lies is the truth.  Live in the Truth of the Word!

Take Out:

Satan promises the best, but pays with the worst; he promises honor, and pays with disgrace; he promises pleasure, and pays with pain; he promises profit, and pays with loss, he promises life, and pays with death.

Charles H. Spurgeon

Dessert:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I am Your child.  You are Holy, Righteous and True.  Let me no longer linger in the cesspool of regret and despair.  You have lifted my feet from the miry clay and placed them on the solid rock of Christ.  Let me choose to live in victory and choose to have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).
