Man of Integrity

So David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.” And Ishbosheth sent and took her from her husband, from Paltiel the son of Laish. - 2 Samuel 3:14-15

This was a very interesting request from David. Remember, Saul gave his daughter, Michal, to David hoping she would bring him down. She was David’s first wife and she really loved David and wanted to be his wife, but after David escaped from Saul, he gave her to Paltiel as his wife. Once again, Saul did not honor his covenant with David.

If David had not seen Michal since he had run from Saul, why was he asking for her? What was the purpose of making this request of Abner? Think about it; as the husband of Michal, David was the son-in-law to Saul. It gave him a direct line to the throne.

I believe David was again trying to bring the nation of Israel back together. He wanted to give the people a reason to believe and trust in him. He was trying to bring reconciliation to Israel.

Clearly, God had chosen David to be the next king, because he saw the heart of David. He loved God and he loved Israel. He wanted to do what was best for the nation. He was a man of integrity and loyalty.

God looks at the heart of man, and decides how He will use him. He sees whether we are men and women of integrity. He knows if He can trust us with His plans and purposes. Can He trust you?

If we cannot be believed on our word, we are surely not be trusted on our oath.
