Comfort in God’s Guidance

“Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously,” - 2 Samuel 7:10

This is so cool. God not only lifted David up from the shepherd’s field to be the king of Israel and protected him from his enemies, but His hand was upon the entire nation of Israel. He was with the people of Israel, just as He had been with David.

As the king of Israel, I think David felt a great responsibility to take care of God’s people. He was supposed to lead and guide the nation. He had to be under tremendous pressure, thinking God was depending on him to take care of the people.

In this verse, God was reminding David, he was not leading and guiding Israel. God was leading and guiding His people. He would provide a land for them to dwell. He would protect them from their enemies. All David had to do was inquire of the Lord, and He would give him the wisdom and knowledge to lead the people.

I think David must have felt great relief to get this message from the Lord. He was not on his own. God was in control, not David. This message was comforting to David and it is very comforting for all of us. We do not have to figure everything out on our own. We can inquire of the Lord in prayer and read His Word. He will guide and direct us each individually and as we try to lead our families, ministries and business.

The fundamental mode whereby our rational Creator guides His rational creatures is by rational understanding and application of His written Word.
