Somebody Loves You - February 5

FRIDAY 5 February, 2016

One Honorable Man

And Uriah said to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields. Shall I then go to my house to eat and drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing.” - 2 Samuel 11:11

Uriah answered David as a true leader. Why should he receive special treatment and privileges while all his men endured hardships? Uriah was a man of integrity and honor. As a leader he had strong convictions, his conscious would not allow him to go home, it was unthinkable.

He was not even a Jew, he was a Hittite! He had come alongside David and given him his loyalty. It is important to recognize how he showed his faithfulness to David, his men and his wife.

Uriah even reverently mentioned Israel’s Ark of the Covenant residing in a tent. The ark represented God’s presence among His people. Remember when David brought the Ark to Jerusalem and danced before the Lord in humility (2 Samuel 6:14-15). Where is God’s presence in David’s life now?

We have two very different types of leaders here, Uriah was an honorable man; David, because of sin, had become a dishonorable man. What kind of leader have you become in the different places God has placed you in life; honorable or dishonorable?

... for those who honor Me [God] I will honor ...
