Sent to Confront Sin
Then the Lordsent Nathan to David... - 2 Samuel 12:1
David, separated from God and still unrepentant, needed to be confronted about his sin. God in His love and mercy sent the prophet Nathan. Imagine the prophet Nathan having to confront the king. Through history God sent prophets to Israel such as: Samuel, Isaiah and Jeremiah. Often the people would not listen to them and many were even killed (Matthew 23:37-39).
I believe with all my heart that God touched David in the midst of his sin. Why? Because God does the same today with me and you, Romans 5:8 tells us: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. It is important to realize that it is God that has always initiated a relationship with mankind.
In the same way, we should reach out to a brother or sister who has fallen into sin, consider Galatians 6:1-2: Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
It is hard to confront someone in sin, but if you love them enough you will. Remember the bible teaches a positive outcome from obediently correcting another Christian in sin. It is important to pray and then use the authority of the Word in your reproof. Once they repent they can be made useful to God again.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
