The Sword of Retribution

You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. In response to David’s sin, God who is just in His judgment, pronounced fair punishment. David had been completely forgiven but now he would reap the consequences of sin and it would affect him for the rest of his life. He had used the sword of Ammon to kill Uriah, now the sword would never depart from his own home. In the future, his children, Amon, Absalom and Adonjah would all die by the sword.

Many times when we reap to our sin we get mad at God. We know there are consequences of sin--so then why do we sin? It could be because of stubbornness or rebelliousness, hardness of heart or like David, yielding to a temptation that we could not overcome.

Listen, when we have issues we need to take them to the cross. It is also important to go to a leader if you need prayer. As a pastor I need prayer all the time; I carry a great deal of responsibility with everything that God has entrusted me with.

Before you decide to sin, do you ever stop and think about your family and the responsibility of one day answering to God?

There is nothing in the law of God that will rob you of happiness; it only denies you that which would cost you sorrow.
~Charles H. Spurgeon~
