Sinful Demands

Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the bedroom, that I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to Amnon her brother in the bedroom. Now when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister.” - 2 Samuel 13:10-11

Amnon asked that the food be brought to him in his bedroom. Tamar missed another great alarm of danger. Instead of realizing she was not safe, she submissively went to him with the prepared food. Seriously, why would you want to go into the bedroom? Notice this is such a scam! Tamar should have been cautious. He wanted to rape her; that decision was already made in his heart. If only he would have stopped to consider that his actions were going to cause great harm in the future.

What about us? We should have discernment when God tries to warn us. I believe with all my heart that God is faithful to warn us of any impending danger.Sometimes we are not cautious, alert or watchful in our surroundings or situations. Proverbs 27:12 explains: A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself…

Those who do not know the Lord may try to entice us and make us fall. Often ungodly people become friends by telling you their problems and situations.  Once you have opened your heart to them, they try to entrap you. It could be as simple as going somewhere with them.

There is always a lesson to be learned from this tragic account. We need to ask ourselves how God has spoken to our own heart from what we read in the Bible. Is there something in my life that I need to take care of?

The Lord keep us watchful in all seasons, and give us a final escape from the jaw of the lion and the paw of the bear.
