The Specificity of God - Warrior Mom Wisdom - Week of May 10

Warrior Mom Wisdom Devotional

THE SPECIFICITY OF GOD

When we pray a specific prayer to God we can be confident that when it happens it is God who brought it to pass. I was speaking to my daughter, Faith, about four months ago discussing our hope to be able to purchase a nice, used car for her 16th birthday gift. It would take a miracle, but we believed in miracles.

Faith said she’d be thankful for anything, but she hoped her dad would not buy a green Oldsmobile that “ran good, but looked horrible.”

I said, “Faith, what kind of nice, used car would you want?”

She replied, “Well, a cute, little red Honda Civic is what I’d want, but Dad is not going to buy me that; he is going to get whatever runs good, regardless of looks.”

I said, “Faith, it is true, your dad is going to buy a good running car, but we can pray to God and ask Him to provide your Dad with a nice, used, red Honda Civic that runs good.”

She stared at me like I was odd, but she agreed to pray with me.

We prayed for about four months. My husband, Brian, knew nothing of our prayer. We trusted God to orchestrate the details. Brian looked at many cars, but nothing seemed to work out. Then, one day, Brian came across a red Honda Civic. I still said nothing as I did not want to sway the process. Besides, I wanted to watch God do something amazing.

Long story short, Brian bought the nice, used red Honda Civic for Faith’s 16th birthday. Faith and I told Brian about our prayer afterwards. He smiled. Faith and I are still smiling at God’s ability to show up in specific ways when we ask Him to do so.

When we share our faith with other people of God, our faith grows. May God’s amazing love encourage the leader within every one of us to ask and believe God for specifics.
