Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich will be working together in three upcoming primary states in hopes of thwarting Donald Trump’s chances of capturing the Republican nomination.
According to FoxNews.com, the campaigns announced late Sunday that Kasich would give Cruz a “clear path” in Indiana’s primary on May 3 and Cruz’s campaign will “clear the path” in Oregon’s primary on May 17 and New Mexico’s primary on June 7.
"Having Donald Trump at the top of the ticket in November would be a sure disaster for Republicans," Cruz's campaign manager, Jeff Roe, said. "To ensure that we nominate a Republican who can unify the Republican Party and win in November, our campaign will focus its time and resources in Indiana and in turn clear the path for Gov. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico, and we would hope that allies of both campaigns would follow our lead."
In response, the Trump campaign said the coordination was a “horrible act of desperation from two campaigns who have horribly failed.”
Meanwhile, Trump took to his personal Twitter account to respond personally to the news.
“Wow, just announced that Lyin' Ted and Kasich are going to collude in order to keep me from getting the Republican nomination. DESPERATION!”
Trump needs 1,237 delegates to win the GOP nomination. Otherwise, the national Republican convention in July will decide on a nominee.
