Kenya: Baby Girl Miraculously Survives 3 Days amidst Rubble of Collapsed Building

A six-month-old baby girl has been found amidst the rubble of a collapsed building in Kenya, miraculously surviving three days on her own without food or water.

Charisma News reports that the baby girl, whose name is Dealeryn Saisi Wasike, was taken to a hospital to recover and later identified by her father. The fate of the girl's mother is not known.

"The child, who had been buried for about 80 hours, was found in a bucket wrapped in a blanket. She appeared dehydrated, and with no visible physical injuries," the Kenya Red Cross said in a statement.

At least 23 people were killed when a six-story building in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, collapsed. The building was in Nairobi’s poor neighborhood of Huruma where the government has not been able to keep up with the number of people migrating to the city, and thus has not been able to build proper infrastructure.

One hundred thirty-six people were saved from the collapsed building. Dozens of others are listed as missing.

Other African cities face similar building dilemmas as people continue to move to the cities for work in large numbers, making it difficult for local governments to keep up with the new demand for housing and infrastructure.
