New Film Sheds Light on Free Speech and Anti-Semitism

Ryan Duncan

It’s hard to believe Denial, the upcoming legal drama starring Rachel Weisz, is based on a true story. The new movie recounts the legal battle of Deborah Lipstadt, an American historian who faces a brutal libel lawsuit after reprimanding a Holocaust denier. The film looks to explore themes of free speech, law, justice, and the stewardship of history, all while touching on one of humanity’s darkest crimes. While Denial has already begun to garner its share of supporters and critics, the film itself is sure to strike an interesting parallel with a number of modern issues.

How far does free speech truly extend? What happens when society refuses to safeguard history? Look for all these questions and more when Denial premiers in theaters, September 30th, 2016.
