Ashton Kutcher Testifies before Congress about Horrors of Sex-Trafficking

Veronica Neffinger

Actor Ashton Kutcher recently testified before Congress about the horrors of human trafficking and the work he is doing with Thorn, an organization that works to combat child exploitation.

During his 15-minute speech, Kutcher becomes emotional discussing the horrific child sex trafficking abuses he has witnessed through his work as the chairmen and co-founder of Thorn. Kutcher says he has been involved in FBI raids on which he has “seen things that no person should ever see,” and he and his foundation have been contacted by the Department of Homeland Security to step in and aid them in their work to stop human trafficking.

Kutcher and his foundation Thorn build software that enables officials to stop human trafficking and find human trafficking victims. Some of the software programs he and his team have built are called Spotlight and Solace.

Sen. Bob Corker headed the Congressional committee inviting Kutcher to address the lawmakers.

Kutcher went on to address the foster care system, noting that children in foster care are four times more likely to be exposed to sexual abuse. He also addressed the refugee crisis, noting that “When people are left out, when they're neglected, when they're not supported, and when they're not given the love they need to grow, it becomes an incubator for trafficking.”

Kutcher urged legislators to take action on the issue of human trafficking and presented several action steps to work toward.
