Upside Down Perspective

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but he who walks wisely will be delivered. Proverbs 28:26 (NASB)
“Why does he drive the bus, Mom? He is the headmaster, not the bus driver,” said my son. I gently explained to my fifteen-year-old son that the way one truly leads is by serving.
There wasn’t a bus driver available to drive the varsity basketball team to the away games, so my husband picked up the keys and said, “I’ll drive.”
Often the ones who are considered the “greatest of these” are the ones who do the “least of these” jobs. My husband leads by serving.
As a result, he earns the respect of everyone he works with, which makes him a great leader. He would not ask anyone to do something that he would not do himself. If the ceiling needs a patch, he will grab the lift and do it.
If the campus needs to be cleaned up after a hurricane, he will grab the chainsaw and do it. If the baseball field needs a new backstop, he will show up on the weekend to build it. And if there is a need for a bus driver, he will take the keys and drive the students to every away game.
Later on, I said to my son, “Thank you for noticing, and thank you for asking.” When Christ inhabits our bodies by the power of the Holy Spirit, we begin to see the world differently. It’s an upside down perspective.
Jesus taught the lowest is the highest and that leading is the pinnacle of serving.
When you notice, you begin to understand. This is the process of obtaining wisdom and all wisdom comes from God.
Knowledge about God becomes knowledge of God when He imparts wisdom to your soul and it’s at that moment that you begin to see His fingerprints all over your life.
Heavenly Father, I praise You for the love You showed to our upside-down hurting world when You sent Your Son to teach us how to live with patience, mercy, and humility. Jesus noticed the needs of the people and he met them, which in Your eyes is the right-side-up perspective. He loved the lost. He washed feet. He healed. He showed up. Lord, Help us to see the needs around us and let us not be afraid to move to meet them. Help us to remember that leading is the pinnacle of serving. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
