Who Gets the Glory?

After him Binnui the son of Henadad repaired another section, from the house of Azariah to the buttress, even as far as the corner. - Nehemiah 3:24

As Nehemiah set about to complete the reconstruction of the walls he was concerned about one thing––the glory of God.

Let me ask you this question, “How is God getting the glory from your life?” You see, whether you sing, play an instrument or preach, people should not be in awe of you, they should give God the glory. People should not be coming to you and lifting you up. Instead they should speak about how the Lord is really shining through you! Then you can know for sure that your life is bringing glory and honor to His name.

If people are talking more about you than the Lord it is time for you as a leader to check yourself out––spiritually. Is there pride developing in your life? I would bring to your remembrance what happened to Satan. Pride caused Him to be cast out of heaven like lightening (Luke 10:18).  Why?

Satan had attempted to lift himself up above God:

“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!

For you have said in your heart: “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.” (Isaiah 14:12-14)

If you want to guard you heart from pride, ask yourself, am I stealing the glory from God? When you exalt yourself remember it is a very long way down. I would also remind you that God can use a donkey!  When the Lord wanted to rebuke the Prophet Balaam, what did God do? He used Balaam’s donkey to speak to him (Numbers 22:28-30).

Pride was the sin that changed angels into devils.
