Son-shiney Day - Encouragement Café - July 4, 2017

Son-shiney Day

“His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.”  Revelation 1:16b NIV

Days have grown long already, sun warms deep, and June is firefly time.

I love summer, love 4th of July, love watermelon, love days where night is slow in coming. In summer, around here, things slow down – probably because the humidity is almost visible. Afternoons often sound with thunder and rain steams up off the roads.

After my mom passed away and it was time to head home, I felt so all alone. Overhead, the skies were dreary just like me. As I neared the edge of the little town she had lived out her last ten years in, I flipped on the radio.

The song was the sweet arms of Jesus telling me she was okay, and I would be, too. Here are the lyrics that changed my focus:

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all the obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-Shiny day.
(Song: I Can See Clearly Now written by Johnny Nash)

That just happened to be one of my mom’s favorite songs and as it played, the clouds parted and sun broke through, rather the Son broke through. Through to my hurt, my loss, my questions.

It’s just like the Father to, in the simplest of ways, turn our focus to Him and the hope that is always ours. Has this happened in every dreary moment of my life? No. And it won’t.

Sometimes dreary is learning and growing. Sometimes we can celebrate with King David and say “You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy, that I might sing praises to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever!” Psalm 30:11-12 NLT

Sunshine mornings are a great time to give Him thanks. Thanks for always being there with us in the good and the bad. Give thanks that all our days can be ‘Son-shiney’.

Oh Father, why do we doubt? You have promised to be with us always. Your Holy Spirit resides in us and is ours for all eternity. May we look at each sunshine morning and every dreary event with the same eyes – seeing Jesus and knowing He has all our stuff under control. We give You all the glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
