Missouri’s Most Comprehensive Pro-life Bill is Now a Law

Veronica Neffinger

The most comprehensive abortion bill has now become official law in Missouri. OneNewsNow.com reports that Judge S. Margene Burnett ruled that Senate Bill 5 can go into effect, despite protests from Planned Parenthood and the ACLU.

Part of the new law involves a 72-hour waiting period between the time a woman requests an abortion and the time she can actually undergo the procedure.

Susan Klein of Missouri Right to Life further explains this: “The same physician who performs an abortion must be the same physician that meets with the woman and talks about all of the issues regarding the abortion with her 72 hours prior to having an abortion.”

The abortion provider is required to educate the woman seeking an abortion on the pros and cons of abortion. This is also meant to be a time in which the woman can ask any questions about the abortion procedure, side effects, etc.

The new law also involves stricter standards of inspection for abortion clinics with the Department of Health and mandatory reporting of all complications from abortion procedures.

Klein says the legislation is the toughest pro-life bill the state has ever passed.
