Did You Feel That?

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what it yet to come. John 16:13 (NIV)
Imagine sitting down first thing in the morning to enjoy a cup of coffee, only to be hit with feeling that you need to call your friend.
You push the idea to the side, thinking that’s a little odd and go on with your morning. Opening your email, the nudge is just a bit stronger this time.
Unable to shake the feeling, you decide it is time to pick up the phone, knowing that your friend is going to question you calling out of the blue.
However, that is not the response you hear. Instead, through the tears, you hear her say, “How did you know? This is exactly what I needed right now.”
This same scenario has played out in my life on more than one occasion. In fact, I have been on the receiving end as well. It is not just happenstance or being in the right place at the right time, it is the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is given as a gift when you come to know Christ as your Lord and Savior. One of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to be our guide.
There are essentially three ways the Spirit can guide us: through reading the Bible, deep impressions (those little nudges) and other people who are under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
You and I must remember that if we do not allow the Spirit to guide us in the small things, like the nudge to pick up the phone and reach out to a dear friend, then we limit where the Spirit can take us.
When the Holy Spirit moves we need to obey. We have no idea the impact following the little nudge will have on others.
How is the Holy Spirit nudging you? I encourage you to follow the leading the next time you feel that tug. You never know the impact it can have.
Dear Heavenly Father, I humbly come to You today and ask for You to forgive me for the times I didn’t follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. I know that when I choose not to obey in the small things that I am limiting where You can take me. I also know that following the nudges of the Holy Spirit is just one way that You use me to reach out to others. I have no idea the impact those little things can do. I pray that You grant me the wisdom and guidance that comes only from You to know what I should do. I long to shine Your love and light to the world around me. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
