Actions Speak Louder Than Words

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their utterances to the end of the world.” Psalms 19:1-4 NASB

“Mommy, I just have regular blood, right Mommy?”

This is the question my three year old daughter asked as we were heading out the door. I stopped cold in my tracks. “What did you say?” I asked. She looked at me and said, “Mommy, I just have regular blood, right Mommy?”

As I thought about the million different directions this could go, I hesitantly said, “Yes, I guess so.” Without missing a beat she proceeded, “and when I get big like you I’ll have Jesus’ blood in me right Mommy?”

My heart overflowed with joy in the simplicity and the complete randomness of this moment. My youngest daughter desired to have something better than regular blood.

She longed for the day she too would have Jesus blood coursing through her veins.

Recently, as we sat together, snuggling... trying to keep warm, the Lord reminded me of this conversation. With a smile on my face I squeezed her a little tighter and thanked the Lord for stirring her heart.

I prayed that He would continue to do so until she understood and accepted His perfect sacrifice as her own.

I lingered there… in the presence of the Lord… capturing the sights and sounds of that moment… imprinting them in my mind… and praising the Lord for answered prayers. The warmth of the sun on my skin… the cool breeze blowing through the trees… the way the water sparkled as if it were covered in diamonds… the life that breathed in and out of her little body and those precious little hands grasping mine…

Oh Lord, am I practicing what I preach? Do my actions mirror my words? Do they tell of the wonders of Jesus? Or do they declare the image of another, pointing my children down a path consumed by Satan’s darkness?

Nature was created by the glorious hands of God, and yet even without a voice, the way it moves declares “the glory of God to the ends of the world.”

How much more clearly should we as Christians proclaim the splendors of not just our God, but our Heavenly Father?

If we proclaim this truth with our words, then our body should reveal it through our actions… day to day… night to night… pouring forth speech without words… illuminating the darkness with the Light of the world.

Precious Heavenly Father, as I sit here in the dark of the night reflecting on the events of the day, I thank You for the truths You have revealed to me. The day I received Your precious Spirit is the very day I became a spokeswoman for You. A living, breathing representation of You.

Father, forgive me for behaving in any way that is contrary to who You are. For the people I have turned away from You because of my selfish ways… Lord, an apology isn’t enough.

Help me today to purpose in my heart to live out loud a life that reveals Your truths… a life that points people to the saving grace of Your precious Son… a life that declares You are worthy of such praise.

Instead of the breath-taking landscapes speaking of Your mighty works, let the lives of those whom you knit together in our mother’s womb bring about the same revelation. May we live in such a way that the world no longer doubts Your existence. For it’s in Jesus Name, the Name above all names, I pray these things, Amen.
