Candace Cameron-Bure took to the Facebook Watch stage with her friend and Fuller House co-star Andrea Barber for a chance to raise $25,000 for their respective charities. The two friends arm-wrestled, Cameron-Bure got glammed-up 90’s prom style, and the two women closed out the show with a rap battle challenge that even included back-up dancers. On top of the money won by competing in comical challenges, the host prompted the Facebook Watch audience to “click to donate.” Barber won the competition, but both actresses earned money for their charities.
Cameron-Bure told comedian host James Davis that she choose the charity, Skip 1, which encourages donors to “skip a day and feed a child.” Shelene Bryan left her Hollywood career and founded Skip 1 after a skeptical visit to Africa to find out if the two children she sponsored actually existed. The Skip 1 website quotes her memory of the experience: “I was reduced to my knees, taken out of my comfort zone - and brought face to face with compassion. I made a promise to Omega and Alonis that I would never forget them or their friends. I would go back to my home in America and advocate for these children.”
Barber raised money for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). The Christian Post reports that NAMI is the largest organizations in the nation reaching out to help those who suffer from mental illness, and the NAMI website states that “1 in 5 Americans live with a mental health condition.”
The “Do or Dare” Facebook Watch series is set to raise$500,000 over the course of its first 10-episode season. Each show pits a couple of celebrities against each other in contests and dares in an effort to raise money for their charities.
A new video on demand service operated by Facebook, Facebook Watch rolled onto the social media scene in August of 2017.
