The Christian’s Marching Orders
Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. (
Statistics tell us that 95 percent of all Christians have never led someone to Christ. It doesn’t have to be that way. The problem is that for many, the Great Commission is perceived more as the Great Suggestion. For others, the Great Commission is the Great Omission.
Who is called to go into all the world and preach the gospel? We are. In Matthew 28, Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you” (verses 19–20 nkjv).
And in Mark’s gospel Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15 nkjv). From these verses we see that every Christian is called to go into the world and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, and, to the best of his or her ability, lead people to Christ.
I believe that for us to not go into all the world and preach the gospel actually can be a sin. There is the sin of commission, which is doing what you should not do, but there is also the sin of omission, which is not doing what you should do.
The Book of James says, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:17 nkjv).
We have the gospel. We have the way for people to change their eternal address from Hell to Heaven. Yet many of us won’t leave our comfort zones. We will not go and talk to someone who has never heard about Jesus. We need to get over our reluctance, because we’re commanded by Christ to preach the gospel.
