Attitude of Gratitude

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV
As it draws near to Thanksgiving, people young and old begin to think of what they are thankful for. Some think of family, health or finances before diving into the turkey and mashed potatoes. However, we are commanded to not just give thanks on Thanksgiving, but every day, in all circumstances.
At first glance that seems almost impossible. I mean, how can I give thanks when the diagnosis is cancer or when the pink slip arrives? However, if God is asking us to do it, then it has to be possible. It all comes down to an issue of attitude.
No matter what the circumstances of our lives, we choose how we respond. You and I must choose to have a thankful heart.
As a child I would go around the house singing, “Be happy what you’ve got. Oh be glad what you’ve got.” It needs to be a mindset for adults as well. By simply focusing on what we are thankful for, our entire outlook on the day will change.
Never forget that no matter what you are facing, good or bad, God is right beside you. He is there to give you encouragement and strength and for that we can always be thankful. Choose today to have an attitude of gratitude.
I challenge you, for the next week, to write down three things every day that you’re thankful for. Starting every day writing down what you’re grateful for. It will change your outlook for the entire day.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the truth found in Your Word. May I plant it deep into my heart so that when the storms of life come I can draw strength from it. I pray that You will help me have a thankful heart. I long to have an attitude of gratitude. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
