One to be Ruler in Israel

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.”
Micah 5:2

Understand that when you study prophecy in the Bible there are hundreds of prophecies in the Old Testament. The first time Jesus came, He came as a humble servant. In the second coming, He is coming with all power and judgment to a world that has rejected His love and grace.

Micah prophesied of the coming Messiah. He referenced where Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, would be born, 500 years before it happened in Bethlehem, Judah. How did Micah know that when he did not even live in that time period?

Jacob, on his deathbed, spoke individually to his twelve sons and gave each of them a prophecy. Judah was the son to receive the inheritance, passed down from generation to generation: The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the people (Genesis 49:10).

Jacob’s prophesy spoke of the Messiah. Jesus would come through the lineage of the tribe of Judah. In Hebrew, Judah means, “praise.” The name Shiloh is taken for the word Shalom which means “peace.”

Later, King Herod, threatened by the reports of the birth of the King of the Jews, gathered the chief priests and scribes to ask where the Christ was to be born. Notice their answer? They said: “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.’” (Matthew 2:6). Yet these religious leaders, failed to believe in Jesus! Do you believe?

A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.
