God Gives Us Another Heart

So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him [Saul] another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day. When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.
1 Samuel 10:9-10

Notice the necessary quality of character for Saul to become king––he needed another heart. Not only did he have to become another man, but his heart had to change. Samuel’s words spoken to Saul had come to pass––they were fulfilled. Saul had the full power of the Holy Spirit in his life. He prophesied, and he became another man, and his heart was changed. Look at all the character changes in Saul’s life!

God is able to give a person, or even a nation, another heart. The nation of Israel was guilty of idolatry; they had a heart of stone. God had poured out His judgment in fury upon Israel and scattered them among the nations (Ezekiel 36:18-19).

Afterwards, for His holy name’s sake, and so the nations would know He was Lord, God would bring back Israel from all countries where they had been scattered and give them their own land. He did this, not for Israel’s sake, but so His great name would be known. Ezekiel gave a prophecy to the house of Israel concerning His work in their hearts as a nation:

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.  I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them (Ezekiel 36:26-27).

When we become Christians, God gives us another heart––a new heart! We become a changed people. The Lord has put His Spirit within us and given us a new thirst for His Word.

God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"
~Galatians 4:6~
