A Needed Rebuke

Then Samuel called the people together to the Lord at Mizpah, and said to the children of Israel, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all kingdoms and from those who oppressed you.’ But you have today rejected your God, who Himself saved you from all your adversities and your tribulations; and you have said to Him, ‘No, set a king over us!’ Now therefore, present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your clans.”
1 Samuel 10:17-19

The prophet Samuel publicly addressed the children of Israel. They were to be reminded of God’s faithfulness in their past history and be rebuked for their stubborn request for a king. They wanted to be like the other nations––sad. They had rejected God as their King!

Have you come to a place where you have forgotten God’s deliverance?  Desiring to become like the people in the world, are you complaining and discontented? In stubbornness, have you strayed away from the Lord? Perhaps you have even come to the point where you no longer want God to govern over your life. There are times when you need a good rebuke from the Lord. Today, remember the goodness of God, His faithfulness, His grace and mercy in your life, so you can return back to Him:

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God… (Ephesians 2:8). I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13).

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness(Lamentations 3:22-23).

Never reject God’s reign over your life!

All that I was, my sin, my guilt, my death, was all my own; all that I am I owe to thee, My gracious God, alone.
