Mission Impossible

Between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines’ garrison, there was a sharp rock on one side and a sharp rock on the other side. And the name of one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh. The front of one faced northward opposite Michmash, and the other southward opposite Gibeah.
1 Samuel 14:4-5

Jonathan saw the immense pressure placed on Israel by the threat of war with the Philistines, and he decided to do something about it.  The King’s son asked his armorbearer to go alongside with him to the Philistine garrison in Michmash. Jonathan and his armorbearer took an incredible leap of faith. Jonathan and his armorbearer had full confidence in God. They knew the Lord was with them!

Notice Jonathan’s strong faith in the Lord. He did not ask his father for any military support. He knew it was an impossible mission, and he wanted the success to be God’s doing––not man’s. Jonathan knew his God was capable of gaining a victory by whatever miraculous means possible. He was a man of faith! He knew God’s greatness and wanted God to do the work and get all the glory.

The mountain climb to the Philistine garrison was extremely dangerous. Jonathan and his armorbearer would have to climb two steep precipices on either side of a great ravine. One separated Geba on the south and Michmash on the north. The range of difficulty to scale these rocks called Bozez meaning “the gleaming one” and Seneh meaning the “thorny one” was unbelievable! Yet the Lord enabled these two warriors to accomplish the climb.

Has God called you to do something impossible?  Will you take a leap of faith? Place your full confidence in God, and He will show you what great things He can do through your life!

God help me to do the impossible by the power of the Holy Spirit.
