FRIDAY April 5, 2019

What Kind of a Leader Are You?

Samuel also said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the Lord. Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt.’”
1 Samuel 15:1-2

I believe that 1 Samuel 15 is one of the greatest chapters in Israel’s history to teach from because we can learn so many lessons from all the different situations and problems. It has been one of my favorite chapters because it develops certain types, such as the Amalekites who are a type of the flesh. We must reckon the old man––the natural man––to be dead.

The main figure in 1 Samuel 15 is King Saul. I want to emphasize that Saul was man’s choice, not God’s choice. David would be God’s choice. Despite Saul being man’s choice, God still gave him an opportunity to prove himself. God allowed different situations in Saul’s life because He was looking to see if Saul would repent and prove himself to be a godly leader.

I believe that in the same way, God allows different situations in our lives to see how we respond and to show to us what type of character we have. I want you to examine your heart as I ask you these questions. Honestly, think about your answers. How do you see yourself as a leader? Do other people see you as a leader in the way you think you are a leader? What responses do people have towards your leadership?

As a leader, how do you deal with people, problems, situations and circumstances?  Do you have God’s wisdom and knowledge to be a leader? Most importantly, do you have the anointing of God in your life to be a leader? Do you really have a call of God in your life to be a leader?

A true and safe leader is likely to be one who has no desire to lead, but is forced into a position of leadership by the inward pressure of the Holy Spirit and the press of the external situation.
