Willful Disobedience
But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.
1 Samuel 15:9
King Saul did exactly what suited him; in willful disobedience he had spared King Agag. “Agag” may not have been his name, but a title given to him as a ruler. I wonder if Saul was going to try and talk King Agag into giving him all his riches. It does not say in the Bible, but I question why he saved him.
Notice Saul’s men––they followed his example of leadership. They were also unwilling to destroy everything. They had the same willfulness as their leader and kept the best for themselves. God had to deal with the will of Saul and how he was influencing the will of his men.
How many times has God dealt with your will? He commands you to do something, but in your willfulness, you do your own thing. You already know in your mind what you are going to do. You may accomplish some of God’s command––but not all. As long as you have stubbornness and pride in your life, you are not going to accomplish God’s will. You have to obey the Lord one hundred percent.
God will not put up with disobedience. The grace of God will cover for a time to see if there is true repentance, but in the end, the Lord will judge you. He will say, “Enough is enough!” Never take advantage of the grace of God. If you disobey God willfully; He will judge.
Disobeying [God] is the same as telling Him to hold back all of the blessings that come with obedience, and bring on all the punishments that come with disobedience. That is not only stupid, it’s insanity.
