Nothing is Impossible with God
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse, and who had eight sons. And the man was old, advanced in years, in the days of Saul. The three oldest sons of Jesse had gone to follow Saul to the battle. The names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. David was the youngest.
And the three oldest followed Saul.
1 Samuel 17:12-14
Notice, Jesse had eight sons––the number of new beginnings. Three of David’s oldest brothers joined with Saul to help fight the battle against the Philistines. David was the eighth son––interesting. God would use David to do a whole new work in the nation of Israel. Meanwhile, at the battle front, Saul had allowed the name of the Lord to be degraded. The army of Israel cowered in front of the giant Goliath. Did Saul forget all the past victories that God had accomplished in Israel? Did Saul think Israel had to fight the battle themselves? In battle, nothing was impossible with God.
Goliath brought shame as he blasphemed the name of God. Yet Saul and his men were unwilling to make a stand against him. Sadly, God was no longer reigning over Saul’s life, and, because of this, I am sure he felt helpless. Without God on King Saul’s side, perhaps he thought there would be no more help for Israel. Oppressed, he might have thought Israel would lose the battle, and the enemy would gain the victory.
If the Lord is not central in your life, then what protection do you have in defense against the enemy? Do not have unbelief in your heart or a lack of trust in your God. There is nothing impossible with God. What seems to be your Goliath? Who is harassing and distressing you? Place your faith and trust back in the Lord, and do not lack His security. You do not have to go out and fight the battle alone. God will fight your battle and deliver you! Remember, the Christian life is a life of faith.
Life can sometimes be rough. On the contrary, it can also be less challenging if we allow ourselves to see with God’s eyes of faith.
