Are you Available for God?

So David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper, and took the things and went as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the camp as the army was going out to the fight and shouting for the battle.  For Israel and the Philistines had drawn up in battle array, army against army. And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper, ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.
1 Samuel 17:20-22

David obeyed his father Jesse without question. He made himself available to the Lord. He was a young man who was totally sold out to serve the Lord. David was a responsible young man; he made sure his father’s sheep were well taken care of before he left to take food to his three brothers in the camp of Israel.

David, at this point, did not know about the tremendous fear that had gripped Saul and all the men of Israel because of the giant Goliath. As the two opposing armies were arrayed against each other, Israel was under a great threat from the giant Goliath, who continually intimidated them every morning and evening. God, knowing the situation, stirred up the heart of Jesse to send his son David with supplies to his brothers. David left the food with the supply keeper and ran to the army to see his brothers. He was excited to see them!

I like David; in God’s eyes he was a great leader. He was the type of young person who was not moved by peer pressure. The crowds followed him.  I am sure he did not care about what others thought about him.

Today, it seems teenagers have so many distractions that they do not make themselves available to God, like David did.  If you are a young person, think of all the young men God used in the Bible: Joseph, David, Daniel, Jeremiah and Timothy. Young men can be godly leaders too. Do not wait or waste time on foolish things. Make yourself available to God while you are young––allow God to use your life tremendously now!
