Is There Not a Cause?

And David said, “What have I done now? Isthere not a cause?” Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did.
1 Samuel 17:29-30

David used wisdom and common sense in his answer to Eliab, his eldest brother, who misjudged him. He believed David just wanted to see the battlefront.  David must have thought, What is wrong with you Eliab; why are you getting in my face? Do you not see the problem? There is a cause!  David was willing to take a venture of faith in going up against Goliath. He did not have an insolent heart, but a heart after God!

At times, against all odds, God desires for you to take a venture of faith. He may call you into a seemingly impossible situation, a place where you are just going to have to trust Him. You may not be able to see what is ahead of you, but as you take a leap of faith and trust God, He will keep His promises that He has shown to you––He will come through.

When Jesus sent His disciples into a boat to travel to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, a huge storm arose. The disciples struggled in the tempest. Then Jesus came to them walking on the water. Terrified, they thought Him to be a ghost! Jesus spoke to them and calmed their fears. Peter took a step of faith and walked on water to Jesus, but the minute he took his eyes off the Lord and placed them on the storm, he began to sink. The Lord caught Peter and said: “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Jesus calmed the storm. The disciples saw the miracle and worshiped; they recognized Jesus to be “…the Son of God.”

Are there times whenyou struggle with your faith? Know your God!

When you struggle with your faith, when you face the dark night of the soul, when you are not sure of where you stand with the things of God, flee to the Scriptures. It is from those pages that God the Holy Spirit will speak to you, minister to your soul, and strengthen the faith that He gave to you in the first place.
