God’s Providential Path

Now when the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul; and he sent for him. Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”
1 Samuel 17:31-33

When David’s words reached King Saul, he thought, There is a man who is willing fight Goliath! Saul commanded his men, “Well, bring him here!” David spoke with the King. David sought to alleviate the tremendous fear from within the camp of Israel. His confidence was firmly in the living God. David did not hesitate in his willingness to face the giant. His sureness was not in himself, but in the Lord. After Saul saw David’s confidence and listened to his bold words of faith, the King still was not fully convinced.

Saul questioned David’s ability to fight such a fierce opponent. He had no experience in warfare, and besides, he was so young. Surely the giant would slaughter David––it would be like sending a sheep to the slaughter––he would be instantly killed! Goliath was a seasoned warrior from his youth; David, on the other hand, was a mere shepherd boy. What could he possibly do? Yet David would not be dissuaded; Saul’s words did not discourage him from what God had placed in his heart to do.

It is amazing to see the progression of God’s providential path in David’s young life. God is also directing our steps into the plan He has for us. What has God placed in your heart to do for Him?  Do not let other people discourage you. Be encouraged, no matter the impossibility of the task set before you. God is with you––He will be your help.

If our circumstances find us in God,
we shall find God in our circumstances.
