Tried and Tested

So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.”
So David took them off.
1 Samuel 17:38-39

What was Saul attempting to do? He was trying to help equip David for battle by placing his heavy armor on him. David could hardly move! Saul gave to him his shield and his sword, but the young lad was very uncomfortable in Saul’s armor and in handling his weapons. Saul’s armor and weaponry were not tried and tested.

David wisely decided to take Saul’s armor off. He was very comfortable with the weapon he was used to––his sling. Behind the scenes, as a shepherd boy, he had learned to defend the sheep against the lion and bear, with a stone and a sling––a weapon that was tried and tested.

Besides, God had already spoken to him about the battle; no matter the odds, the Lord was going before him. God was going to fight the battle against the giant Goliath––David would be the vessel He would use.

It is important to stop fighting your own battles. Let God fight them for you! No matter how many giants you face––all the problems and situations stacked up against you––step out by faith and take action. If you allow God to fight for you, He will blow you away. God will win! Then, as a child of God, you will learn to trust Him for future battles. Then you will be a happier person, and you will have so much joy.

How has God trained you behind the scenes for the battles you now face?

It took David only a few minutes to dispose of Goliath; but he had beaten the giant long before in the person of the lion and the bear.
