Faith Over Doubt
By Andrea Chatelain

“When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.” Matthew 28:17

I had stabbing pain in my abdomen for two years; the aftermath of enduring three c-sections. I prayed for God to heal me, but in my heart I doubted He could. I was unsure how He could repair something that seemed incurable. Until I was desperate, the pain was too much, and I couldn’t function.

Our intense need for God’s help can push our doubt into faith.

We’ve all been skeptical of Jesus in one way or another. I’ve wondered about His love for me, His ability to change situations or people for the better, and if the cross really covered all my sin. Most recently, I worried He didn’t see or care about my abdominal pain.

Sadly, I’m not alone in my weak faith. The people in today’s verse literally encountered the Son of God, after He’d died and resurrected. They saw the holes in His hands after he rose from the dead, and still they doubted.

I didn’t see Jesus until He was my only option. When doctors didn’t have answers, my need for relief pushed me to rely on Him. One day I broke down to my friend asking her to pray for me. “What do you want?” she asked.

“I want to be healed,” I said.

In that moment, I truly believed Jesus could mend me, not just to take away the pain, and that He would so I could work unhindered for His glory. My friend prayed a simple prayer of Scripture over my body and for the first time in over two years, I’m pain free. I have witnessed the healing power of God and I still wonder, did that really just happen?

Jesus will continue to reveal Himself to us as we journey in faith; sometimes through healing and sometimes as comfort to endure when healing isn’t His will. Either way, the more we see Him working in our lives, the more we’ll cast out doubt and replace it with conviction that He’s present and powerful in every moment. Push past your disbelief today and ask Christ to enter the places you need Him most.
