An Unmovable Trust
And Michal took an image and laid it in the bed, put a cover of goats’ hair for his head, and covered it with clothes. So when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, “He is sick.”
1 Samuel 19:13-14
Saul was bitter. It caused poison to pour out of Saul’s heart towards David. He was obsessed with planning David’s death. Saul had no accountability; he was backslidden and wanted nothing to do with God. His life was governed by his carnal desires. God, by His permission, allowed an evil spirit to harass Saul continually.
Michal, fearful of her father, made the decision to protect David. Why is it that members of Saul’s family were so loyal to David? God remained in command of the situation. He caused them to be loyal to David. During this trying time, David wrote Psalm 59. He cried out to God for the terrible situation he was going through:
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;defend me from those who rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloodthirsty men. For look, they lie in wait for my life; the mighty gather against me, not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Lord. They run and prepare themselves through no fault of mine(Psalm 59:1-4).
Notice David’s heart as he concludes the psalm. Even though he was suffering persecution from within family in the kingdom, he had an unmovable trust in God:
But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defense, my God of mercy (Psalm 59:16-17).
When persecution comes, will you have an unmovable trust in God?
If you can’t see His way past the tears, trust His Heart.
