Foiled Yet Again

Then Saul sent the messengers back to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.” And when the messengers had come in, there was the image in the bed, with a cover of goats’ hair for his head. Then Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me like this, and sent my enemy away, so that he has escaped?” And Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go! Why should I kill you?’ ”
1 Samuel 19:15-17

Saul was persistent in his attempts to kill David. His orders to his loyal men to bring David before him were obeyed. Then Saul could rid himself of this young rival––kill him. When Saul’s men arrived in the room where David slept, he was already gone. He had escaped through the window.

It seemed Michal was afraid of her father, too. She made up a believable story of David’s threats to her if she did not let him escape. Ultimately, it was God who was protecting David.  By God’s divine intervention, David was made safe.  Yet again, the Lord foiled Saul’s plans and prevented David’s death.

In a similar situation, the Apostle Paul was hated by the Jews who plotted to kill him. They watched the city gates day and night in case Paul escaped the city. Somehow, Saul was warned about the plan. The disciples went into action to help him: Then the disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall in a large basket (Acts 9:25).

God works and moves in people’s hearts to be loyal and protect His people against danger. He will surround them with like-minded people who will watch their backs. These people will have your best interest at heart. When the enemy makes his move against us, we need to trust in the name of the Lord. God moves through other people to make sure we are kept safe.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous run to it and are safe.
~Proverbs 18:10~
