Unsteady to Immovable: A Heart Shift

“My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.” Psalm 108:1
Immovable. That’s what steadfast means. But how and why should a heart be unyielding? And what could potentially make our heart move? The answer is, every moment that has the potential to break our faith.
It’s as if the psalmist who wrote today’s verse knows how easily we waver, and he’s offering a commitment. That no matter how hard, tired, or scared, he plans to stand firm and praise God through anything that comes. How empowering to pray those words when we’re at our weakest.
Like, every time we disagree with our husband and bitterness starts to well up. My heart is steadfast, O God! I will follow You because Your ways are peaceful. Each moment we’re afraid for our children’s safety.My heart is immovable, O Lord! I will trust You are ever present and all powerful. And when tomorrow is uncertain. My heart is unwavering, Jesus! I will praise You despite my circumstances.
When we accept that God’s love for us is always steadfast, immovable, and unwavering, our hearts will mirror His. We will then sing and make music in our souls like the psalmist, knowing God is faithful in every moment, and His strength is sufficient for whatever comes.
