The Lord Be with You
And Jonathan said to David, “Come, let us go out into the field.” So both of them went out into the field. Then Jonathan said to David: “The Lord God of Israel is witness! When I have sounded out my father sometime tomorrow, or the third day, and indeed there is good toward David, and I do not send to you and tell you, may the Lord do so and much more to Jonathan.But if it pleases my father to do you evil, then I will report it to you and send you away, that you may go in safety. And the Lord be with you as He has been with my father.”
1 Samuel 20:11-13
Jonathan and David planned to see if Saul’s reaction was peaceful or angry. David would not go to eat a meal during a religious feast to see if he would be missed. Jonathan, loyal to David, would let him know the results. If favorable, then all would be well. If Jonathan found out that Saul intended to do David evil, then he would warn David and send him away.
Jonathan knew the Lord, who hears all things, would be a witness between them both. Jonathan would keep his promise; if need be, he would send David away safely. Jonathan wished David well and gave a blessing, “And the Lord be with you as He has been with my father.” David would have the comfort of God’s presence.
It is important to have the comfort of God’s presence in our lives. Moses was called to lead God’s people.God gave Mosesapromise: “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest” (Exodus 33:14).
Joshua faced the challenges of leading God’s people into the Promised Land. When Moses passed on the leadership of God’s people to Joshua, Moses reminded Joshua of God’s presence: “…Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”(Joshua 1:9).
God never leaves us; His presence is with us as we journey on this earth.
Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God.
