Us or Him?

Us or Him?

Us or Him?

Thought- Is it all about us or do we do what we do so God is glorified?

Scripture- “After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.” – John 17:1

Insight: I must admit to myself that many times I want the recognition for the good deeds I do. I lacked parental affirmation as a child from my father, so I seek it from the Father. How silly is that? God knows all of my good deeds, but He doesn’t need to affirm me. I should be content knowing that He is pleased when any of His children obey the scriptural teachings, most of all because they bring blessings to us. It is plain wrong to seek glorification for ourselves at the expense of God getting all the glory for anything good we produce in His name. He alone is worthy of all the praise and without Him, none of what we accomplish would have any eternal value. It is because of and through the power of the Holy Spirit that we can accomplish great things. We should be forever content that we get to share in the same power that raised Jesus from the grave (John 14:12) but we should never try to steal the glory that rightly belongs to God alone. I have struggled with wanting to share in God’s glory many times, but I am learning to simply trust that He alone is enough for me and a content heart is my reward.

Prayer: Father God, help us to be content in knowing that we get to share in your inheritance and not seek your glory on earth for our good deeds. We pray for strength in Jesus name. Amen!
