Dealing with Paranoia
“All of you have conspired against me, and there is no one who reveals to me that my son has made a covenant with the son of Jesse; and there is not one of you who is sorry for me or reveals to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day.”
1 Samuel 22:8
Saul seemed to have lost his mind, he was acting paranoid. Saul accused his men of creating a conspiracy against him. How sad was Saul’s life. He had become such a fool. He started as King of Israel with a trace of humility but because of rebellion and disobedience he was not finishing well. How difficult this must have been for his loyal men to deal with his unstable ways.
Notice Saul’s self-pity, false accusations and the staining of Jonathan’s character. Could it be Saul carried guilt over his uncontrollable behavior and his hateful attitude towards those who really respected him? Saul was destroying his heart and mind. Guilt can cause such mental anguish and irrational behavior. Saul used to love David. Now he was trying to destroy David. Murder had entered Saul’s mind and heart. Sadly he would be the one to be destroyed.
Understand there is a spiritual battle for the hearts and minds of men and women. As a Christian it is important to guard our hearts and minds. Read and memorize these important Scriptures:
Proverbs 4:23:Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.
Matthew 22:37: “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”
2 Timothy 1:7:For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
God has a goal to accomplish. God will remove people from the scene who are not in alignment with His will so He can continue His work.
You can see God from anywhere if your mind is set to love and obey Him.
