Obey God Rather Than Man

And the king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house!” Then the king said to the guards who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of the Lord, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled and did not tell it to me.” But the servants of the king would not lift their hands to strike the priests of the Lord.
1 Samuel 22:16-17

Saul ordered his body guards to kill the priests, but they did not have reprobate minds like Saul’s mind. They resisted Saul’s order and would not lift their hands against the Lord’s priests––no way! The body guards disobeyed Saul. They would not touch the Lord’s anointed. If you harmed a priest you would be in deep trouble with God, and face His judgment!

Saul was not thinking clearly, he had been overstepping his bounds as king. His orders were completely insane. He should have never ordered his men to take arms against the priests of the Lord. Notice where his obsession with David’s destruction had taken him. He was willing to take the lives of others; anyone who he thought would help David escape. Even those who were not his enemies––sheer madness.

Saul’s rage blinded his eyes to his unrighteous behavior. Can you believe it? Did Saul forget he had no authority to do the priests harm. The priests were the Lord’s anointed, and, God commanded they should not be harmed:

When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people, He permitted no one to do them wrong; yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, and do My prophets no harm” (Psalm 105:13-15).

Be careful not to be like Saul and despise or have hatred in your heart towards another person. Especially those who are anointed of the Lord. They have the Holy Spirit of God in their lives. Never come against those whom He has chosen to use for His glory.

…the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
~James 1:20~
