Seeking Confirmation from God

But David’s men said to him, “Look, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?” Then David inquired of the Lord once again.
And the Lord answered him and said, “Arise, go down to Keilah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.” And David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, struck them with a mighty blow, and took away their livestock. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.
1 Samuel 23:3-5

David’s men were very apprehensive––afraid. They still were very unsure of going up against the Philistines to save the city of Keilah. It may give Saul knowledge of their whereabouts. So David prayed once again to the Lord. He needed confirmation. David had an ear to hear what God was saying to Him. As David listened, he received an answer of confirmation from the Lord. God told David, “Arise, go down to Keilah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”

God gave David the assurance his men needed. Then David took a leap of faith knowing God was going to be with them. God gave David and his men a great victory!  The city of Keilah was delivered from the Philistines. In the Old Testament, under Joshua’s leadership, the children of Israel failed to inquire of the Lord when the Gibeonites approached them to make peace: …the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord (Joshua 9:14).

Some of our decisions are not from the Lord because we have failed to pray. As we learn to take ventures of faith, it is important to first pray and ask God for His perfect will in our lives. Primarily, God will speak to you through the Word of God as you are reading it. At times, He may confirm His will through another person, or through different circumstances. Listen to His still small voice. Pray and wait on the Lord to confirm to you His will.

I delight to do Your will, O my God, and Your law is within my heart.
~Psalm 40:8~
