Let the Lord Judge

“Moreover, my father, see! Yes, see the corner of your robe in my hand! For in that I cut off the corner of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor rebellion in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you hunt my life to take it. Let the Lord judge between you and me, and let the Lord avenge me on you. But my hand shall not be against you.”
1 Samuel 24:11-13

David made a bold declaration. He explained to Saul how he had cut off a piece of his robe, and how easy it would have been to kill him. David proclaimed to Saul his innocence. In reality, David was letting Saul know, as a son to his father, he was not the problem. Saul was the problem––he wanted to kill David.

David showed great wisdom as he stood before King Saul. Those listening to David could see the Lord’s anointing on his life.  They also saw the truth and sincerity of his words and his actions. David could have killed King Saul, and secured his position on the throne, but he did not touch Saul––the Lord’s anointed.

David could have put an end to Saul’s unjust treatment––his constant persecution. Imagine, with Saul dead, the pursuit would be over. Yet David never took the situation into his own hands; he left things in God’s hands. David was the type of person to allow God free reign. In God’s perfect timing, David would be exalted to the throne of Israel. It was not something that would be made to happen by David’s or any other man’s intervention, but by God’s own hand––by God and through God alone.

The Lord has taught me that no matter what happens in my life, come to the altar of God.  I must admit, Saul would have driven me up the wall, but this lesson teaches us all how we need to forebear with each other. Have you allowed the Lord to be Judge in a situation and leave these things in His hands instead of your own hands?

…God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another.
~Psalm 75:7~
